The state-of-the-art hospital is being built on a 50-acre site and, at approximately 1.5 million sq. ft., will be more than three times the size of OTMH. The hospital will offer a full range of acute healthcare services to serve the needs of the rapidly growing Oakville community "There have been literally hundreds of meetings with 52 different staff and physician teams that have led to Halton Healthcare Services being sure, very sure, that we have the design the way we want it and the way we need it to deliver excellent health care in the future," said Fleming. "There are four basic blocks in the way the site is being structured and there is an active plan for circulation around the site ... so people can access the site and move around the site easily by means of bike, car, pedestrians and public transit." There are currently six cranes involved in the construction of the site. Fleming also talked about the Oakville Hospital Foundation, which he said so far has raised $48 million -- 80 per cent of its $60-million contribution goal. The foundation, Fleming said, has rolled out its public fundraising campaign and intends to work with the community over the next three years "There have been literally hundreds of meetings with 52 different staff and physician teams that have led to Halton Healthcare Services being sure, very sure, that we have the design the way we want it and the way we need it to deliver excellent health care in the future." John Fleming, chair Halton Healthcare Services to raise the remaining $12 million. The Town of Oakville has agreed to contribute $130 million to the creation of the new Oakville hospital. The new hospital is expected to be substantially completed by July 2015 with patients being transferred there during the late Fall. Once completed, it will be one of the largest community hospitals in Ontario. Following the presentation Ward 4 Town and Regional Councillor Allan Elgar voiced a complaint brought to him by residents near the construction site who say lighting being used there at night is shining into their windows. Fleming said that concern was brought to his attention for the first time that day and that he would look into this issue to see what could be done.
