Students from Appleby College travelled to Saskatchewan to use the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron to take a close look at zinc nanoparticles in relation to sunscreens. Appleby team studies nanoparticles The CLS synchrotron is a leading-edge, football fieldsized research tool that uses intense beams of light to probe the nature and structure of matter. Five Appleby integrated science club student members, led by Dr. Anjuli Ahooja, used the facility to investigate the chemical structure of the tiny zinc particles, according to a release from Appleby. The particles are com- mon in sunscreens because of their reflective properties, but there is little existing research about their safety. The group was part of the Students on the Beamlines program. Drive One 4 St. Mildred's robotics team Saturday Oak-Land Ford Lincoln and St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School are partnering to help raise up to $6,000 in support of St. Mildred's robotics program with test drives Saturday (June 9).
