Certainly, and a couple of Oakville children have done it. Jacob Moro, 13, and Andrea Hayman, 12, are appearing on Teletoon's Skatoony, a hybrid live action/cartoon quiz show for children. The show pits live elementary-school aged children and cartoon characters against each other in a quiz show, similar to Hollywood Squares, for a chance to win prizes. "I was really excited," said Hayman, a Grade 7 E.J. James Public School student. "It was really fun to do it and I was really excited afterwards because I always wanted to be on TV. I finally got to and it was more fun than I could imagine it would be." Of course, neither child could meet any of the cartoon characters. Each episode features three cartoons and three children competing. The children are placed in front of a green screen and are asked questions and interact with cartoon characters played by real people. "There are people with pictures of the cartoon characters taped to their chest. They were the cartoons," said Moro, a Grade 7 Our Lady of Peace Catholic School student. "It felt kind of weird because some of the characters who were supposed to be guys were played by girls so it was a little confusing," added Hayman. The two Oakville children are appearing in season two of the show, which began in April, but in separate episodes. Moro is in episode seven, which airs on Sunday, May 20, while Hayman's episode 20 is scheduled for sometime in September. "I'm kind of nervous to see how I look," Hayman said of when she'll be able to watch her own episode. Both children got their chance on Skatoony after being part of a drama camp. After the camp, the families of interested children registered for casting call notifications and both of them saw the parts on Skatoony. "We read the description and my mom thought I would be good for it," said Moro. The auditions were held in Toronto, and after both Oakville children got their parts, they were filmed at the Toronto studio about a year ago. "This is the first time I've ever been on TV. It was pretty awesome," Moro said. Both Oakville children had a good time at the filming and say they hope to do more when the opportunity arises. "It was really fun. Everyone there was really nice and they were really good with us," Hayman said. The show airs on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. on Teletoon. For more information, visit www.teletoon.com. Circle of Harmony third at choral contest The local women's chorus Circle of Harmony recently returned from a choral competition in which it placed third out of a field of 24. The 65-voice group competed at the 37th Annual Convention of the Sweet Adelines International Region 16 in Syracuse, New York. "We work hard and perform often, but there's something uniquely thrilling about competition," said chorus member Denise van Amsterdam, in a press release. "It's a shared, unforgettable moment in time; a pinnacle within our year when our dedication to musical excellence is rewarded." Last year, the local ladies chorus placed fourth at the competition, which includes choruses around Lake Ontario, including the Golden Horseshow and Upper New York State.
