Royal LePage offices across the country will be hosting the National Garage Sale for Shelter on Saturday (May 12), including here in Oakville. The one-day charitable event raises funds for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, Canada's largest public foundation dedicated to supporting women's shelters and ending family violence. Canadian statistics show that more than half of Canadian women will experience abuse in their lifetime and more than 360,000 children are exposed to family violence each year. The local event that aims to help those facing domestic violence or moving on with their lives after experiencing domestic violence, takes place at Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd., 231 Oak Park Blvd., from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The event will include a barbecue, coffee and bake sale, children's games, raffle and a flower sale. In addition to attending the event, people are asked to drop off gently-used items to the local realty office by today (Friday, May 11). 7 · Friday, May 11, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Correction A photo featuring Optimist Oratorical Contest participants from Oakville schools, which appeared on page 6 of The Oakville Beaver's Thursday, May 10 edition, included a misspelling of a participant's surname as the result of incorrect information supplied.
