www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, April 26, 2012 · 10 Canadian financial firm Deloitte has pledged to give the new Oakville hospital $1 million. The money will purchase essential equipment for the new hospital, currently under construction at Dundas Street and Third Line, and its Health Library will be named in Deloitte's honour. "Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is in the process of transforming its Health Library, plans which will culminate in a Staff & Consumer Health Centre and Service at the new Oakville hospital," stated John Oliver, HHS president and CEO in a press release this week. "To facilitate this dramatic shift in organizational and community learning, staff across the facility will require the tools and training to equip their patients to take an active role in their own health prevention and rehabilitation... a Deloitte pledges $1 million to new hospital role that has been proven to reduce hospital costs and admissions." The Health Library will provide information on health, diseases, diagnostic procedures, preand post-procedure care and wellness to assist patients, families, the community and HHS staff in making informed choices about their health. It will house resources for short-term borrowing, be a resource for local information on self-help groups and support services, and will be equipped to assist multicultural groups with multi-language materials and culturally-sensitive community services. The Oakville Hospital Foundation's $60-million campaign to equip the new hospital will help purchase more than 30,000 pieces of lifesaving hospital equipment -- equipment that is not funded by the provincial government. "We are grateful for the generosity of Deloitte, its partners, employees, and foundation, who came together to support this extraordinary gift," stated Tina Triano, Oakville Hospital Foundation CEO. "Deloitte has provided tremendous support to our hospital over the past several years and this philanthropic gift underscores its dedication to improving healthcare in our community." In addition to having several employees volunteer with the Oakville Hospital Foundation, Deloitte played a consulting role throughout the new hospital's planning phases, including working with Infrastructure Ontario to develop the functional plan, local share funding model and other key project pieces. "At Deloitte, we believe in working `As One' to contribute to the communities where we live and work," stated Richard Nunn, a Deloitte partner, who sits on the HHS finance committee and Oakville Hospital Foundation Board. "This pledge reflects the combined support and personal pledges of our partners and staff residing in Oakville and is supported by the Deloitte Foundation. It is our unified commitment to the new Oakville hospital. All of us hope this donation will enable the Oakville hospital to continue to provide the best possible healthcare to those in need."
