The three public schools, located at 221 Allan St., 165 Charnwood Ave., and 1079 Linbrook Rd., have been closed since the end of the school year in 2010. "These school sites have played an important role within their neighbourhoods and council is very pleased that the Town will have control over the Mayor Rob Burton future possible uses of these lands," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "The Town looks forward to working with the community to complete a comprehensive land use study to help identify public needs and potential opportunities for these lands that will support council's vision to be the most livable town in Canada." The three former school sites are part of the Town's recently announced South Central Public Lands Study. The study will also include the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital lands, Oakville Arena and Trafalgar Park. Town gets Edgemere lakefront By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Town of Oakville now owns 5,404 square metres of waterfront land and trails at Edgemere Estates. The acquisition comes after the Town and Edgemere reached a settlement that saw final site plan approval given to Edgemere Estates Limited for the condominium development it is constructing at 1502 Lakeshore Rd. E. In return, the Town gets a publicly-accessible waterfront and trails, which will run south along Maple Grove Drive from Lakeshore Road to the waterfront, along the shore of Lake Ontario and then north connecting back to Lakeshore Road by way of a trail through Wedgewood Creek.
