Atom Venom boys earn silver at D1 provincials The Oakville Venom atom under-11 AAA boys reached the Division 1 finals at the Ontario Basketball Association championships before falling 62-56 to the defending champion Scarborough Blues. Oakville earned its way to the title game with wins over the Brampton Warriorrs, Durham City Bulldogs, Vaughan Panthers and IEM Newmarket Spartans. That set up a showdown between the top-ranked team in the province (Scarborough) and the second-ranked squad (Oakville). The Venom built a four-point lead entering halftime, but Scarborough rallied to lead by one after three quarters and held off Oakville in the fourth. The Venom's Addison Patterson led all scorers in the final with 18 points and was named Oakville's MVP. Other members of the team are Anthony Briscoe, Zachary Meier, Chris Stagl, Alexander Krstic, Latrell O'Neal, Okay Djamgouz, Nicholas Chivaran, Scott Ramsay, JusTus Vasilakos McRae and Michael Juricic. Two other Oakville teams rounded out the podium at the competition. Field hockey registration open Registration is now open for the upcoming Halton Field Hockey Club spring/summer season. The club offers recreational programs for divisions 10-andunder, 11-13, 14-17 and 18-and older. No playing experience is required, and all leagues play their games on artificial field turf. All divisions but the 18-and-older will begin their seasons April 28. Tryouts for the Halton Thrashers competitive teams for high school-aged girls will be held April 25 and April 27. Local teams finish 1-2-3 at volleyball tourney Bugarski Cup organizers might want to consider moving the annual competition to Oakville next season. Oakville squads finished first, second and third at the under-15 girls' volleyball tournament recently in Kitchener. The Oakville Thunder U15 blue team won the title, Lakeside Volleyball Club claimed silver and the Thunder U14 blue squad earned bronze. The U15 Thunder defeated its U14 teammates 25-20, 25-13 in the semifinals, then downed Lakeside 25-15, 25-18 in the gold-medal contest. Members of the U15 Thunder are Lauren Kane, Jordan Dixon, Olivia Oberholster, Patricia Gombas, Erica Witt, Jessica Arnds, Madeline Dunn, Valentina Zapata, Amanda Prestidge and Kaitlyn Brooks.
