Through Habitat for Humanity Halton's ReStore, reusing and recycling can help provide affordable housing for families living below the poverty line. At ReStore, donated items are resold or recycled. Items that may otherwise go to the curb, become thousands of dollars in revenue, which assist with housing in Halton. This spring, as residents clean up or do home improvements, ReStore asks that it is remembered. Each year, the Habitat ReStore reduces, reuses, recycles, restores, and saves more than 500 metric tonnes of household items from becoming landfill. The ReStore also accepts many new products from retail stores such as items discontinued or over stocked -- with great deals offered on brand new items. In 2010, the Habitat ReStore expanded its floor space by 3,000 square feet to create a kitchen, bathroom cabinet, and appliance section. Now its volunteer salvage crews assist even more people with their renovations by taking apart kitchen, bath- ReStore an option for cleaning and renos room cabinets in a manner that allows for the materials to be reused. The ReStore kitchen area refills and empties quickly because it has quality cabinets that are selling for a fraction of the retail price and there is no HST. Its recycling program has the capability of growing rapidly with some assistance.
