ARTHUR A. ADAMSON KILLED IN ACTION
One of the First to Enlist From This District Meets Death at Vimy Ridge.
Word was received here last week of the death in action of Lance-Corporal Arthur A. Adamson on April 9th. He was with the 20th Battalion machine gun section and had been in the trenches for the past two years. He was slightly wounded about a year ago, but had otherwise escaped injury through many engagements, until the battle at Vimy Ridge where he met death.
Lance-Corporal Arthur A. Adamson was one for the first to enlist in the Porcupine district. He went from here with the first Battalion recruiting here, and after reaching Toronto he transferred to the 20th Battalion. He lived here for about five year[s], being one of the miners at the Hollinger during that time. He was one of those receiving the gift of 100 shares of Hollinger stock given by the Company to each of its employees serving King and Country overseas, and though he received the certificate and was delighted at the gift, he did not survive very long to reap its benefits.
Lance-Corporal Adamson was popular and highly esteemed by all who knew him. "A fine young man," is the general verdict of the many friends in the Camp who will mourn his loss. At the time of death he was only 28 years of age.
A brother, James Adamson, of Schumacher, who has been with the Hollinger mines for the past five years, is among the near relatives surviving. their old home was at Dumfermline, Scotland, where a widowed mother now mourns the loss of this brave son in battle.
