OAK third overall at short-course provincials The Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) finished third overall at the Ontario shortcourse swimming provincials recently in Nepean. OAK racked up 1,776 points to finish behind only Etobicoke (3,495) and Toronto (2,363). "The third-place finish is an outstanding example of the team's depth, considering (we) were without 14 of the Olympic trials meet qualifiers," said OAK head coach Sean Baker, referring to the OAK swimmers currently preparing for next week's trials in Montreal. Mackenzie Hamill led OAK at the shortcourse (50-metre pools) provincials, collecting three gold medals in the male 14-year-old division and setting a pair of club records. Hamill won the 400-metre and 1,500m freestyle as well as the 200m butterfly. Nina Tomic also won gold for OAK, claiming the female 11-yearold 200m freestyle event. Tomic added four silvers and a bronze in other events. Sarah Cauvel and Maggie Copeland both earned two silvers for OAK, with Cauvel adding a bronze. Katelynn Rapson and Luka Tomic each took home a silver and a bronze, while Ian Chambers, Olivia Sinclair and Scott Love also had second-place finishes. Bronzes went to Ali Baki (three), Kiera Brough, Nicole Bullock, Meghan Clarke, Matthew Mac, Julia Matuszczak and Emily Ramier. Top-eight finishers included Perrie Armstrong, Hannah Burgess, Alyssa Forbes, Collyn Gagne, Emily Hunt, Carly Jazbec, Paige Lavergne, Omar Lozano, Dan Rona, Abbey Saunders, Kevin Scaife, Alexander Smith, Olivia Strevett, Hugo Truong, Connor Wilkins and Wezley Wright. OAK teams earned gold medals in the male 12-13 relay competitions. Ali Baki, Marcelo Gamio, Omar Lozano and Luka Tomic teamed to win the 200m freestyle relay, while Scott Love replaced Gamio on the victorious 400m freestyle team. Tyler Altenhof, Tomic, Gamio and Baki added second-place finishes in both the 200m and 400m medley relays. OAK's male 11-and-under relay team of f Collyn Gagne, Ian Chambers, Hugo Truong and Lewis Whitton earned two silver medals and two bronzes. Alyssa Forbes, Lara Olivier, Kiera Brough and Caroline Zhang collected bronze in all four of their female 10-andunder relay events.
