Museum to exhibit at QEP centre until re-opened Continued from page 1 11 · Friday, March 2, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Additionally, the improved system will help with preservation of artifacts. "It will give us better control of the internal environment and that's great for the artifacts, to have a nice stable, consistent environment inside. It's nice for staff and visitors, too," said Nesbitt. The washroom upgrades will be made in the 1920s portion of the heritage house. The new handicapped-accessible family washroom will be built in a space that is currently used as a storage area by museum staff. The project is still being tendered so its full cost is unknown at this time. Nesbitt said the project will be funded through the museum's and the Town of Oakville's capital budgets. "This Council is committed to preserving the heritage resources of our community," said Mayor Rob Burton, in a press release. "The Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate does a great job of showcasing the town's history. We are pleased that these renovations will help preserve historical artifacts and enhance the experience for current and future visitors." While the renovations are taking place, people will still be able to enjoy some of the museum's work. On March 24, the museum will open two new exhibitions at the new Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. In the art gallery of the centre, Returning Home: A Carrie Hillyard Retrospective will be presented. It is a retrospective of Hillyard's career, one that started when she was 13 years old, to becoming an accomplished Canadian painter some four decades later. The other exhibit is titled Queen Elizabeth Park High School: Rediscovering the Spirit. It is a nostalgic look back at the school that previously occupied the space of the new centre. It features photographs, uniforms, trophies, yearbooks, pins and stories. During the time of the renovations, the museum will also offer its Pioneer Life school program in partnership with the Oakville Historical Society. It will run out of the Thomas House and the Old Post Office. The museum will re-open with the Bridesmaids Revisited exhibit. For more information, visit www.oakville.ca/museum.
