Former women's soccer prodigy Kara Lang, long-time Canadian Football League star Mike (Pinball) Clemons, National Football League record-holding kicker Mike Vanderjagt and Canadian harness racing legend Rick Zeron make up the 2012 class that will be officially inducted into the Hall tonight (Thursday). Lang goes into the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame just one year after knee injuries forced her to retire from the Canadian national team at the age of 24. In 2002, Lang made her debut with the national team at the age of 15. Two days later, she became the youngest woman to ever score a goal in international play. The St. Thomas Aquinas grad finished her eight-year national team career with 34 goals in 92 appearances and also represented Canada in the 2008 Olympics. Clemons, a native of Florida, joined the Toronto Argos in 1989 and went on to be known as one of the most dynamic players in CFL history. The league's most outstanding player in 1990, Clemons helped the Argos win Grey Cup championships in 1991, 1996 and 1997. He also holds team records for career receptions, punt-return yards, punt-return touchdowns and kickoff-return yards. Following his retirement from the Argos in 2000, Clemons became both the club's president and head coach. He is also known for the Michael Pinball Clemons Foundation, which aims to inspire hope through philantrophy and empower the disengaged, and as a soughtafter public speaker. Vanderjagt concluded his professional football career as the most accurate field goal kicker (minimum of 100 attempts) in NFL history. The White Oaks grad, who played soccer and football for the Wildcats before playing NCAA football for Michigan State and West Virginia, made good on 230 of 266 field-goal attempts (86.5 per cent) in his NFL career, which was primarily spent with the Indianapolis Colts. In 2003, Vanderjagt went the entire regular season and playoffs without missing a field goal or extra point. Vanderjagt also converted 112 of 150 field-goal attempts in the CFL and won Grey Cups in 1996 and 1997 with the Argos. Zeron has sent more than 7,400 horses to the winner's circle as a driver and 2,000 more as a trainer during his career. Since his first win came in Ottawa in 1975, Zeron has collected nearly $120 million in earnings as both a driver and trainer. For nine straight seasons, Zeron posted winnings of more than $5 million in purses, demonstrating both his consistency and domination of the sport.
