Bronte farmhouse showcases spirits of the past By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Children whispering and a physical push from an unseen source were just a couple of the strange happenings reported by the Halton Paranormal Group during a recent investigation of Bronte Provincial Park's Spruce Lane Farmhouse. The local non-profit group, which investigates reportedly haunted buildings in an effort to obtain proof of ghostly activity, descended on the farmhouse late last month to determine whether the Victorian-era home's haunted reputation was indeed justified. It wasn't long before Halton Paranormal agreed something is definitely going on there. "We heard a lot of strange noises, clicks and knocks and stuff," said Oakville native Kim Hadfield. "We didn't really feel we got much until we listened to our recorders after we got home. We got a lot of sentences and whispers and voices that weren't ours." Hadfield said the recorders, which were switched on as the group explored the darkened rooms of the empty house, picked up what sounded like children speaking, including one that called out for its mother. "We always get told that," she said. "It's hard to tell what they are saying a lot of the time. You can tell they are talking to us, but because they are speaking in a different realm or level sometimes you can hear them and sometimes you can't." Electromagnetic Detectors, brought by the group, also spiked while in the house, which Hadfield said was strange since the house has limited hydro. The group took photos during its investigation with many of their photographs capturing orbs of light and strange shadows. Hadfield said there is currently debate within the paranormal investigation community as to whether the orbs that appear in photographs are paranormal in nature or simply light reflecting off dust and insects, etc. Hadfield believes they are spirits, noting there seemed to be a relationship between the presence of one and her colleague and long-time friend, Kimberley Valstar, being knocked down a few stairs inside the farmhouse. "Kimberley fell down the last two stairs and she's not quite sure why," said Hadfield. "When the guy at the top of the stairs took a picture there was a big orb beside her. We kind of think she was helped along down the stairs." Hadfield, who manages a horse farm in Campbellville, has always been interested in the paranormal, but said she kind of fell into investigating haunted houses. The road towards investigations began when Hadfield would have strange encounters while indulging in her hobby of photographing abandoned buildings.
