Audrey Webb Turner (nee Leaver) Family and friends are welcome to attend an OPEN HOUSE Sunday, February 12, 2012 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Queen's Avenue Retirement Home, 1056 Queens Avenue, Oakville. Best wishes only Celebrating 100 years! SAWYER, Wayne September 21, 1928 - January 26, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Wayne Sawyer. After a valiant battle with declining health he died peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with his family at his side on January 26, 2012 at the age of 83. Wayne leaves behind Halen, his wife of 58 years, their children John (Marianne), Bill (Brenda), Susan (Pete) Gagnon, Barb (Jeff) Parker, Pat (Nancy), and grandchildren Theresa, James, Robert, Stephen, Calvin, Joey and Nick. An athlete in his youth, Wayne was a member of the Memorial Cup winning Oshawa Generals in the mid 1940's. Wayne served as an OPP officer in the Windsor/Chatham area before moving to Oakville to work as a driver at Maris Transport. He retired in 1992 after working at Maris for 40 years. Wayne was an active member of Teamsters local 938, Claude M. Kent Masonic Lodge, The Oakville Shrine Club, Oakville YMCA and Munn's United Church. Wayne was active in the scouting movement for many years. His experience and skills as an outdoorsman made him an ideal scout leader. Wayne was the driving-force behind the establishment of a very successful juvenile pipe & drum band in Oakville. The band went on to win many titles at highland games across Ontario and the northern United States including several North American Championships. Wayne became well known as an armchair judge in piping circles. He was one of a kind. Never hesitating to speak his mind he was more than willing to share his opinion. You always knew where he stood on an issue. A great outdoorsman Wayne was happiest in the bush or working in his garden. He took great joy over the years in training his Labrador retrievers and attending field trials. At his request, he has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at Munn's United Church, 5 Dundas Street East (at Sixth Line), Oakville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in memory of Wayne to Munn's United Church or the Oakville Hospital Foundation. CONLEY, Donald S.
