The new elementary school is to be called École élémentaire du Chêne, named for the oak tree, one of the symbols of Oakville. The new high school is now École secondaire Gaétan Gervais, named in honour of Gaétan Gervais, author, historian, teacher, and one of the creators of the FrancoOntarian flag. The names were chosen by members of the school board, Conseil scolaire Viamonde. "We are proud that the community has decided to honour M. Gervais, who is a pioneer of French Ontario.
