Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and several Town councillors were on hand Monday for the launch of the local Coldest Night of the Year charity walk -- slated for Feb. 25. The non-competitive two-, five- and 10-kilometre winter-walk fundraiser supports select Canadian charities that help serve the hungry, homeless and hurting in cities across Canada. "In these uncertain economic times, everyone is aware of how tough it can be for some members of our community to make ends meet," Burton said in a news release. "There is so much we can do as a community to eradicate poverty and its effects, if we work together. I invite all Oakville residents to participate in the walk to help those most in need." The fundraiser, also known as the WALK, will start at 5 p.m. at the Dream Centre, 485 Kerr St. -- home of KSM.
