www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, January 26, 2012 · 10 Winners to be announced at March 7 gala at the Oakville Conference Centre By Nathan Howes SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER The best businesses Oakville had to offer in 2011 were unveiled at last week's Oakville Awards for Business Excellence (OABE) nominee reception at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre. The 17th annual awards -- organized by the Rotary Club of Oakville West (RCOW) and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce -- are dedicated to recognizing exemplary models of excellence and community service by Oakville's businesses. In all, 48 businesses were nominated across six categories from 160 submissions. "I'm so delighted the (Oakville) Chamber is co-hosting this event with the Rotary. It's about community building and community spirit, that's the natural affinity between our two groups and kind of the basis to why we put on such a wonderful event," said Wendy Rinella, Oakville Chamber of Commerce chair. "I'm really excited about all the different categories. You just got the ultimate business referral -- someone nominated you as best in your class." The final round of judging now occurs with the winners to be announced at the OABE gala Wednesday, March 7. Approximately 400 people are expected to attend with Lexus of Oakville returning as platinum sponsor. Proceeds from the gala provide funds for various RCOW youth and academic programs such as the Oakville Youth Development Centre, Oakville Awards for Academic Excellence (OAAE), Camp Enterprise, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and scholarships and bursaries for Oakville's top students. To date, OABE galas have raised more than $500,000. "You've honoured the true spirit of excellence through your commitment to the Oakville community, your best business practices and your all-too-often forgotten contribution to the high quality of life we all enjoy here in Oakville," said Bonnie Anderson, Rotary member and OABE co-chair. "The OABE program provides the opportunity for us at RCOW, in a formal manner, to honour the invaluable and unique contributions you provide to the community. "It takes a village to raise a child and the Rotary Club of Oakville West is proud to contribute to the youth development and leadership in Oakville," said Anderson.
