11 · Friday, December 16, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com 99's dad STORYTIME: Two young hockey enthusiasts, Ayden Glazier, 4, and his big brother Logan, 6, both of Oakville, joined Canada's favourite dad, Walter Gretzky, the 2011 Christmas Seals ambassador, at the recent launch of the century old fundraising campaign. The local boys heard about Walter's family holiday traditions and a hockey player named Wayne. The Gretzky family has been personally touched by lung disease; Phyllis Gretzky, Walter's wife of 45 years died of lung cancer in 2005. The Christmas Seals campaign began more than 100 years ago to help eradicate tuberculosis and has become a favourite holiday tradition for millions of Canadians. Since they launched in 1908, Christmas Seals has raised more than $350 million toward lung health programs and research. As one of Canada's first direct mail campaigns supporting public health education and care programs, Christmas Seals has been credited with laying the groundwork for our country's universal health system. Festive Christmas Seals are used to decorate letters and gifts showing others you care about their health. SUBMITTED PHOTO Join JNB Auto Center in a Day to Donate!
