Upon investigation, the officers found a severely emaciated dog tied to a string in the garage. When she was found, Mea was cold, lethargic and had a damaged eye. There was no food or water present in the unheated garage. Mea was removed from the home after the OMHS Officers failed to receive compliance from the owners. Immediate veterinary care was sought and charges were laid. "It has been a long journey from Jan. 31 to today," said Oakville & Milton Humane Society Manager of Animal Protective Services, Amanda Barrett, in a news release. "We are very grateful that justice was served for Mea and that her future will be much brighter than her past." The sentencing is one of the most severe in the 75-year history of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. "It is our mission to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves," said Johanne Golder, executive director of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. "Mea needed us to be her voice and we were proud to speak out loud and clear. I am so very proud of Officer Mackasey and our entire Animal Protective Services Team for their tireless pursuit of justice for this great dog." Mea is currently at a local veterinary clinic for assessment and a plan for `re-homing' her will be formulated based on the results of her assessment.
