The streets of downtown Oakville and Kerr Village will be filled with holiday cheer as Santa arrives in the 63rd annual parade. Its theme is All I Want for Christmas. The parade begins at 9 a.m. on Lakeshore Road and Reynolds Street. First, there will be a flypast of Santa's airplanes in the formation of a Santa Claus Christmas tree. The planes will fly over downtown and Kerr Village. Then Mrs. Claus and her magical Cinderella coach will lead off f the parade as grand marshal -- and host the young winner of this year's colouring contest. Following soon after will be floats depicting the Christmas wishes and dreams of their creators -- individuals, businesses, schools and service clubs. By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The new public high school in northwest Oakville is being named after a Halton veteran of the Second World War who spearheaded the development of the Juno Beach Centre in France. The school will don the name of Garth Webb Secondary School, after Halton Garth Webb DistrictSchool Board trustees voted on the name at the Wednesday, Nov. 16 meeting. The school is scheduled to open in September at 2820 Westoak Trails Blvd. Webb, a Burlington resident, landed at Juno Beach during the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944 with comrades from The Queen's Own Rifles of f Canada. He later spearheaded a campaign through the Burlington-based Juno Beach Association, which he founded, and raised the $10 million required to build the centre. Landmark ruling in cruelty case The Oakville & Milton Humane Society celebrated a landmark sentencing Thursday in an animal cruelty case. Sentencing was meted out to Natasha Janajevic and Steven Lopez of Milton in the animal cruelty case regarding Mea, a Victorian bulldog/Sharpei cross dog. The sentence included a 45-day jail term and a 30-day jail term and fines totalling $10,000. Janajevic was found guilty of one count of causing distress to an animal and sentenced to 45 days in jail -- to be served intermittently. Janajevic also received two years probation, a 10-year ban on owning, caring for, or residing with an animal and surrender of Mea to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. Janajevic was also found guilty of one count of permitting distress to an animal and fined $5,000, plus court costs and victim surcharge and another two years of probation.
