Take a walk with Mutt Strutt The Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) is inviting all of the animal lovers of Oakville to raise pledges and come out to Cornwall Road Park on Sunday, Oct. 16 to walk for the homeless and forgotten animals of the community at the sixth annual Oakville Mutt Strutt. The goal for this year is to raise $30,000 to help the more than 5,000 animals that turn to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society each year for help. Animals that are lost, homeless, neglected, injured or abused -- some of the most vulnerable animals in Oakville and Milton -- need the help and care provided by the OMHS. A registered charity, the humane society receives no government funding or funding from any other animal welfare organization to investigate and prosecute, where necessary, animal abuse, cruelty and neglect; to shelter and find loving forever homes for adoptable animals; teach lessons in respect, compassion and responsible animal care through humane education. This year the 5-km Oakville Mutt Strutt will be led by Oakville resident and television weather personality Carrie Olver. There is also a 1/2-km stroll around Cornwall Road Park for older pets and families with young children. Walk registration will begin at 11 a.m. with both walks starting at noon. After the 5-km Mutt Strutt and the 1/2-km Mutt Stroll, the Critters Gone Country Fall Fair will bring animal-themed entertainment, a Kids Zone with games and a bouncer, a vendor marketplace with items for people and pets alike, fall fair food, a fun dog show and silent auction to Cornwall Road Park making this a day of family fun. The Critters Gone Country Fall Fair will take place from noon-4 p.m. and you do not have to walk in the Oakville Mutt Strutt to take in the fair. "With the shelter currently closed due to a small outbreak of a fungal infection known as `ringwo g rm,' , it has never been more important to walk for the animals than this year," said Brenda Dushko, manager of fund development for the OMHS. "Caring for the animals, housing our lost and stray animals in boarding facilities and veterinary clinics and not being able to adopt out animals has all strained our resources to the max," said Dushko. "We really hope the community comes out to show they care about the homeless animals of Oakville," Dushko stressed. Pledge forms for The Oakville Mutt Strutt may be downloaded from the shelter website, www.oakvillemiltonhumane.ca where you may also find out how to set up your own secure online giving page and collect pledges online. Pledge forms are also available throughout Oakville at pet supply stores and veterinary clinics.
