Two years later, he bought the Oakville branch, and Gerrie Electric (GE) was born. His company now employs 250 people across 18 branch locations. Gerrie Electric has given to a few charities, including the Canadian Diabetes Society, which is the charity of choice for GE. The company received the Canadian Diabetes Society's Outstanding National Corporate Award in 2010, the highest level of recognition given by the Society. · Dr. John Yates s -- He has assisted the people of Haiti for many years, most recently as senior project officer for International Child Care Canada. His focus has been on the Grace Children's Hospital, which specializes in the treatment of children with tuberculosis and HIV, along with general primary health care services. For two years, Yates and his wife, Sandy, worked in Haiti, volunteering with International Child Care in a countrywide vaccination program against tuberculosis. As executive director and CEO of International Child Care, Yates worked on community-based primary health care, tuberculosis control, HIV/AIDS, and other projects. · Bent Fink-Jensen n -- In addition to his Rotary involvement, Fink-Jensen is a director of City Centre Toastmasters and the Oakville Cycling Club. His first job was club secretary and he still serves on the board of directors as chair of club services. Fink-Jensen also serves on the communications committee. He is the editor of the club's monthly newsletter, RIOTS. One of his most notable contributions is on the Internet auction committee, where he is responsible for logistics, including data entry of items and the warehouse. · Christopher Paton n -- He has been an active member of the Dragon Boat Festival committee since joining in 2009, and contributes to its continued success. He has been a pod captain, leading his team in organizing weekly meetings. For the past two years, Paton has been a director in charge of communications. · Ken Popelas s -- Joining the club in March of 2009, Popelas has made a significant contribution serving on the community service committee and has been involved with the Dragon Boat Festival. For the past two years, he has been on the board as director of youth and vocation. He has broadened the search for candidates for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and improved the screening process. He previously belonged to two other Rotary Clubs, in Brantford and St. Catharines, each for three years. · Bill Roebuck k -- An active volunteer for more than three decades, Roebuck has served on, and chaired, various committees with the ALS Society of Canada and the Rotary Club, which he joined in 1992. He edited the club's newsletter, RIOTS, for five years. He currently serves on the club's community service, communications, and membership committees. He is an active participant in most of RCOT's activities, including the Group Study Exchange program, the Final Stage Housing project, Waterfront Festival Beer Tent and the Dragon Boat Festival. · Denyse Tyndall l -- Since joining in 2009, she has been active in the club and other Rotary activities. She was a chaperone at Camp Enterprise, a business leadership camp for Halton teens. Tyndall volunteered at the Strawberry Social for seniors, actively sold tickets at Midnight Madness, and has regularly helped at the Dragon Boat Festival.
