Santa parade contest is on T he Oakville Santa Claus Parade is pleased to launch its annual colouring contest, created again this year by award-winning cartoonist Steve Nease, well-known for his entertaining Pud cartoons. Children aged five to 10 years will have the chance to win the seat beside Mrs. Claus in the beautiful Cinderella carriage. Children aged three and four will have the chance to win a special prize just for their age group. Once again, Oakville will welcome Mrs. Claus as the Parade Grand Marshall. Mrs. Claus is well known for keeping Santa Claus on his toes throughout the year, making sure all the toys are made in time for Christmas, the reindeer are in shape for flying and Santa's suit is shiny red for his Christmas Eve adventures. She is looking forward to seeing familiar faces in the Oakville crowd as this is her sixth visit to Oakville for the parade. The colouring contest is now available online and is in the Kids Section of today's Oakville Beaver. Children can get creative and into the Christmas spirit by colouring a picture celebrating this year's Parade theme, "All I Want for Christmas." Kids, hurry and get your markers and crayons out because the colouring contest runs only until Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. Winners will be notified Nov. 9. Make sure to drop by Heritage Square on Kerr Street on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1-4 p.m. when the Oakville Santa Claus Parade booth will have lots of giveaways, free face painting October 1 to October 31. and more. Children can take part in a Scavenger Hunt throughout Kerr Village. Kids will get the chance to win either a ride in the window of Santa's float, ride with the mayor in his VIP vehicle or light the Christmas tree at the Kerr Village annual tree lighting. The Kerr Village BIA is excited about once again partnering with the Santa Claus Parade. "It is only natural for us to once again partner with the parade to offer children these once-in-alifetime memories," said John Marlatt, special events chair, Kerr Village BIA.
