Government must work constantly to provide adequate help where it is needed and find a way to pay for that help. Special needs and mental health issues cover a lot of territory. Government must be there to help people who truly have no other place to turn medical supports, treatment options and opportunities can be expanded as long as we are mindful of the balance we must strike among all areas of the system. I support a regular review of spending to ensure we find that balance. We will spend an additional $6.1 billion annu- ally by the end of our term on health care. It is a constant battle for balance as new tech- nologies, new treatments and research force us to reconsider the way we approach various prob- lems.
