Oliver also said that because of this project a large amount of Oakvilles provincial tax dollars will be staying in the commu- nity for a change. If you look at the construc- tion costs, the construction funding that is coming from the Province of Ontario, the 30-year maintenance and the new oper- ating dollars, we will have over 30 years to fund all that new activity, it turns into a $4-5 bil- lion capture of Oakville tax dol- lars, said Oliver. This is your tax dollars stay- ing in Oakville, providing a need- ed service, providing care for families, for businesses and at the same time spinning off into addi- tional wealth creation. Besides the engagement at the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, Oliver also spoke to Town Council on Monday. After thanking the Town for its $130-million commitment to the local share of the new hospital, Oliver presented designs better indicating what the facility will look like when completed. The images we are going to be showing you tonight are images from the bid document. The consortium has committed to building a building that looks very much like this, if not exact- ly like this, said Oliver. If you recall, the last time I began by saying the images Im showing you are exemplary imag- es, it is not going to look exactly like this. (We are at a stage now where) at the end it better look pretty close to this because this is what we are buying. The plans for the site sub- mitted to council Monday night showed five main structures including a medical office, a parking structure, the five-sto- rey complex continuing care rehab/ambulatory building, the 10-storey inpatient tower and the four-storey emergency and diagnostic imaging building. Between the parking struc- ture and the ground-level park- ing, the hospital will feature 2,100 parking spaces. Other interesting aspects include a library where mem- bers of the public can do health related research, a therapy pool, and a helipad. Oliver said the hospital will be built to a LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) silver designation. This means efficient water fixtures, energy-efficient build- ing and mechanical systems, landscaping using drought-re- sistant plantings, collecting storm water and using it for irrigation and 75 per cent of the construction waste diverted away from landfill and into other purposes.
