Our core areas such as Kerr Village and Downtown Oakville will benefit from job creation within our commu- nity and the greater purchasing power they bring. Simultaneously, we need to get people to and from these new jobs and into our town. That means expanding our transit options and timetables to accommodate shifts and ease of travel within Oakville and for longer com- mutes. The NDP will work with Oakville to build public transit that works for our community. That`s how we'll strengthen Oakville`s economy. Lesley Sprague NDP Continued from page 20 business tax rate will be reduced to just 4 per cent. It is no wonder that Ontario is first in North America for attracting foreign direct investment per capita and turning that invest- ment into jobs. Our policies have already encour- aged businesses to expand in Oakville. Thanks to provincial action more than 1,200 jobs have been created both in Oakville and within com- muting distance - and many more expected with the new hospital. A strong economy allows us to continue building together, creat- ing stronger schools and better quality health care. Oakvilles econ- omy will directly benefit from a thriving Ontario, where a well-edu- cated workforce competes in the new global economy. The PC platform has a $14 Billion hole that means deep cuts to health care and education, putting our progress at risk and taking our economy off track. Kevin Flynn Liberals Continued from page 20 Our plan will guarantee a reduc- tion in red tape, choice over manda- tory smart meter energy pricing and let businesses focus on growing, not on endless paperwork, delays and government directives. And third, well emphasize skills training and modernize the appren- ticeship system to ensure motivated workers from Ontario dont leave for better opportunities in other prov- inces. Ontario was once the economic engine of Canada. We knew our jobs were secure and the opportunities for our children were almost unlim- ited. The effects of eight years of Mr. McGuintys job-killing taxes and mismanagement of the economic recovery can be seen in the vacant industrial and employment lands throughout town. Soaring energy costs make it even more difficult for businesses to hire and threaten the remaining manufacturing jobs we have. Under Tim Hudaks leadership, our plan, Changebook, focuses on re-establishing Ontario as Canadas leader in private sector job creation. Your vote counts. yLarr Scott PC Continued from page 20 Thirdly, by instituting preventative healthcare policies, GPO will generate savings in health care costs, and will funnel all of the saved funds into improvements to the crumbling infra- structure in our cities, and into the improvement of public transporta- tion. Besides the obvious benefits to Ontarians, this will provide a sizable job stimulus. Finally, GPO will press the federal government to renegotiate our trade agreements to protect local manufac- turing and local farming. Andrew Chlobowski Green Continued from page 20
