Oakville resident John Shoniker will be one of four men inducted into the University of Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame later this month. The long-time local resident was known as the heart and soul of the Waterloo Warriors defence during his five years with the foot- ball team. He dressed for every regular-sea- son game during his Canadian Interuniversity pS ort career and ranks third in Warriors his- tory in sacks and eighth in tackles. While at Waterloo, Shoniker was named an OUA first team all-star twice and a second team all-star once. In his final season, he was named a CIS first-team all Canadian. The club will host three training sessions for children and adults next weekend. If the sessions titled 'Learn To Curl, On Purpose' and supported by the Canadian Curling Association and Rock Solid Productions draw 200 participants, there is an excellent chance they will be televised across the coun- try on CBC's Sports Day in Canada telecast. The sessions, slated for Saturday, Sept. 17, are approximately one hour long. Registrants can be as young as eight years old and as old as 80-plus, and sessions will begin at 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. In lieu of a registration fee, participants are asked to bring canned food that can be donated to the Oakville Food Bank. Following the sessions, a free barbecue lunch will be offered for all participants.
