When we do go down to L.A., we want to be 100 per cent prepared to put on live shows there and show them what weve got and at the same time release singles while were down there. A&R organizes a concert called MUSEXPO in Los Angeles, which the guys at Raising Atlantis hope A&R will include them in. Those (A&R) bands are looked at higher than the rest just because theyre recom- mended by A&R. So all the labels that are there will be looking at them more than at the other bands, Garnett said of the con- cert. If we do get recognized by A&R for this MUSEXPO, were hoping that a label will catch our eye and we need to be prepared for that and that needs to go very smoothly because thats basically the goal: to get picked up by a label eventually. Garnett said the band is also working to improve its web presence. Band wants to be L.A.-ready Continued from page 27 Teachers showcase art at show With the start of the new school year, local art teachers will be showcasing some of their skills that they will attempt to teach their pupils throughout the year. The Halton District School Boards high school visual art teachers will hold the third annual Front of the Class art exhibit at Oakville Town Hall, opening Monday, Sept. 12. More than two dozen teachers are par- ticipating, showcasing their skills in paint- ing, drawing, photography and other medi- ums, with about 60 pieces on display at the free show. White Oaks Secondary School teacher Christina Annis, co-organizer of the exhibit, said the works are bound to inspire viewers. Everyone knows that teachers teach, but not everyone knows that teachers also enjoy the discovery of learning, she said in a press release. The art show encourages partici- pants to test out new ideas and experiment with different media. Also, the show brings teachers together who have a love for the creative process together, which is invigo- rating and motivating. There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, Sept. 20, starting at 6:30 p.m. with the teacher artists and some of the work will be available for purchase. The show runs until Oct. 6. Sing with The Entertainers at open house Men who love to sing are invited to The Entertainers Open House and Guest Night on Monday, Sept. 12. The event will take place at the Syl Apps Youth Centre, 475 Iroquois Shore Rd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the singing will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The groups music director Bruce Smith said, You should come to see if this group of men-of-song holds an interest for you, either now or in the future, and to find out what their music and activities are all about. Those who attend the open house are not required to join the group. City lights at photography show A photography trio wants to show people there is more to the city than just a place of work. Oakville is a commuting suburb and residents go downtown with a reason in mind, to work, catch a hockey or baseball game, a concert and go shopping not to explore, said William Smith, one of the artists. What we want people to do is stop and look around, there is beauty in the urban environment. William and Alex Smith and Les Lengyel will pres- ent a photography exhibit, City Days and City Nights, at the Sovereign House, opening Saturday, Sept. 10. The show will feature images from GTA cities along with New York City. The show is part of Art on the Bluffs, a fundraising program for the Bronte Historical Society, which operates Sovereign House. The gallery is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays 1-4 p.m. The exhibit ends on Sept. 21. For more information, visit www.brontehistoricalsociety.ca.
