For the event, 15 of Oakvilles finest restaurants will prepare special Prix Fixe menus that will high- light their unique tastes. This season the participating restaurants are: 3 Ss Restaurant, Cafe Galleria, Colossus of Oakville, Coriander Green, Jam Martini Bar, Jonathans of Oakville, Kleopatras, Nzyme, Southside Grill, Olivers, Paradiso, Ristorante Julia, The Griffin House and The Crepe Kitchen. The festival runs from September 16 to 30. To launch the festival, Downtown Oakville is holding its first-ever Chefs Mash-Up that pairs six area executive chefs representing diverse culinary fla- vours to showcase their talents on the Town Square Saturday, September 10 from 12 to 4 p.m. To add to the excite- ment, this will be a Black Box challenge. This means that the chefs will have to cre- ate dishes in a designated time using ingredients given to them only moments before the competition begins. With the ingredients shrouded in mys- tery, how does one prepare for the unex- pected? Michael Spudowski, executive chef of Jonathans of Oakville offers some insight; I'm approaching the challenge with an open mind and will let the ingredients and my co-chef inspire the moment. As far as I'm concerned that's the only way to look at an event like this. Let your talent and personality shine while promoting our res- taurants, local farmers and put- ting on a great show! To top it all off Massimo Caperacelebrity chef and restaurateurwill be in town critiquing the showcase and signing his book One Pot Italian Cooking. The participating chefs will be from 3 Ss Restaurant, Paradiso, Jonathans, Kleopatra, Ristorante Julia, and Coriander Green. All of the food for the showcase will be donated from a local organic farmer in support of the 100 mile diet concept the promotes buying food produced locally. No reservations are required to watch some of Oakvilles finest chefs come together and throw down in a culinary fusion spectac- ular like no other. h f h ll l h f f lC e c a enge aunc es A Taste o Downtown estiva 905.844.7600 85 Navy Street, Oakville, Ontario, Canada L6J 2Z2 Appointments recommended www.canadiansound.com Smart Whole Home Solutions rf om Canadian Sound exclusive dealers of Control your home with MyHome Now its easy to control virtually anything in the home from any screen. h l l f bEvent s owcases oca restaurants rom Septem er 16 to 30 These local chefs are ready for the Chef's Mash-Up Black Box Challenge that will kick off A Taste of Oakville Downtown.
