As classes now resume, the goal has finally been reached and the new classroom is ready. You should be aware this achievement didnt just pop up overnight. It took years of hard work from dedicated staff, students and parents. Many grants were applied to help fund the classroom. The ole Forest Trail Green Team won the $1,500 Halton Youth Award for Environmental Excellence, made a scrapbook of its plans and most recently created a multi-media slideshow to document the schools environmental initiatives of the past year. The slideshow was eco-friend- ly as it was done electronically, avoiding the use of natural resourc- es. Fundraisers at school events and school concerts also played a key role in supporting the Learning Centre by selling eco-friendly prod- ucts such as bookmarks, bracelets and keychains made from recycled materials. The outdoor classroom was envisioned as a place to teach the students about the world sur- rounding them. ole Forest Trail is a newer school built in 2007 and it will take a few more years for the natural surroundings to flourish. ole Forest Trail is also the proud recipient of the notable Ontarios Eco-School Gold Status Award three years in a row. Another eco initiative that took place throughout the past year was the schools 1st Annual Earth Day Assembly which was a huge success. With the new school year, teach- ers are excited about taking classes to the new Outdoor Learning Centre so they can be the first of many gen- erations to enjoy this amazing accomplishment.
