She spent this summer with Canadas National Ballet School and just finished a the- atrical production of Annie Jr. in Mississauga. Now, shes in the finals of the junior division (ages six-12) of this years The Rising Stars Competition, taking place at the CNE and will be performing a song from her second CD. The finals take place Sunday, Sept. 4 at The Bandshell. A year ago she made it through to the competition's semi-final round. Performing the song Dont Rain on My Parade, she is up against other singers, instru- mentalists and dancers in the finals after hav- ing gone through preliminary rounds during the two weeks of The Ex. I was very surprised. I had tough competi- tion, she said of reaching the finals. Performers were permitted to choose more than one song, but it was recommended to perform just one, which Lecomte has done, taking the piece from the musical, Funny Girl. I chose the song because its very powerful. Theres a lot of action and its very dramatic. Its fun to try to belt out all of the notes and the words, she said. There is a certain degree of difficulty per- forming the song, so the young performer said she needs to rehearse it regularly. She realizes her chances of winning the competition are slim as shes competing against older performers. I hope I do as well as the others, she said. I hope I dont get placed at the bottom. I hope to be second or third, but Im not sure about first. The final round of the contest starts at 7:30 p.m. ON STAGE: Nine-year-old Isabella Lecomte is a finalist in this year's The Rising Stars Competition at the CNE. The choir hopes to recruit new tenor and bass singers. The advanced registration will take place at St. Aidans Anglican Church, 318 Queen Mary Dr., from 7 to 8 p.m. New and returning members can register and receive their music at that time. There will be no rehearsal that night. A second registration will take place the following Tuesday at the church at 7 p.m., followed by the first rehearsal at 7:45 p.m. Rehearsals are held Tuesday nights from September to May in prepara- tion for the two concerts.
