By Nathan Howes OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Red, blue, green or orange it didnt matter what political colour people wore, Jack Layton touched the lives of many Canadians and knew how to bring them together. This was evident Friday night when close to 50 people showed up at Centennial Square to pay tribute to the 61-year-old politician who passed away Aug. 22 after a second battle with cancer. Among those in attendance were Mayor Rob Burton and former Oakville mayor Ann Mulvale, along with Oakville MP Terence Young and Oakville provincial NDP candidate Leslie Sprague and former Oakville federal NDP can- didate James Ede. I was very upset on Monday when I heard the news, and Jack being a person who influ- enced me greatly, meant a lot to me and judg- ing by the numbers here, I think I wasnt the only person who was influenced by Jack, said Ede, who organized the memorial for the fallen leader. He lived a very productive and ener- getic life in politics. Ede considers himself lucky to have met Layton a few times. He first met Layton last year in Toronto during a reception for all of the Ontario NDP federal candidates.
