He was telling us how to prepare pre-game and the types of things that will make you play bad and lose focus, Bourne said. Bourne is certainly focused. He goes to Conacher Athletics (formerly PEAC), which partners with Blyth Academy to provide schooling and training for high-performance ath- letes. fBourne is sure to draw a lot o attention this season as he enters his Ontario Hockey League draft season. Though he has yet to decide whether he will go the OHL or U.S. college route, Bourne said one point was driven home during the camp. You have to bring it every night, fhe said. You cant take a night of because teams need to know what they can expect from you. Bourne says he will be better pre- pared to do that now. Former NHLer Gary Roberts drove home the point that it is not enough for a player to simply work out in the gym. He said its nutrition first, therapy second and then training, Bourne said, because if you dont do the first two, youre not going to get every- thing you can out of the training. And getting to play with the best bantam players from across the coun- try made Bourne realize there is still room to improve. He wants to work on his first-step quickness and improv- ing the accuracy of his shot. You realize how good everyone here is and to be the best, youre going to have to push beyond your limits, he said. I think Im on the right track but Ill never forget what I learned.
