Though the play is not autobiographical, it is inspired by Gruners own efforts to get plays produced as a director. This particular piece is inspired by my experience directing my second play, he said. Because its all my interpretations of the events, it makes sense to make it a one-person show. I play little characters but its really from the perceptions of the director. Its a play on words, Gruner explained. The director has prob- lems with his cast. Cast Away is partly a play on cast members leav- ing. Also, the director sort of feels like he has a destiny from God and when things start going wrong, hes feeling like hes been cast away from the big guy. Its a play on both those ideas. The play has four remaining showings. They are on Aug. 20 (2:15 p.m.), Aug. 25 (9:30 p.m.), Aug. 26 (7 p.m.) and Aug. 27 (8:15 p.m.). Tickets are $15. Each night features three shows with tickets for the entire presentation $36. The theatre is located at 16 Steven St. in Hamilton. For tickets and more information, visit www. thepearlcompany.ca.
