the HERALD Wednesday July 31 1991 Community Profiles Meet the managers The new Manager of Personal Banking at the Main Street Royal Bank said his goal is to make residents more aware of the bank The bank has been here for years but I think we need to do a better job of letting people here know what we offer said Mike Reid from his office Wednesday We want to let people know we want them to bank here and ap preciate their business Mr Reid took over the position of Manager of Personal Banking April 29 when former manager Irene Newman was transferred after two years with the Main Street bank Hes had a long history in bank ing which began in when he joined the Royal Bank as a teller Mike Reid in a Toronto branch Soon he was promoted to ad ministration positions and first became a personal banking manager several years ago in one of the many Toronto branches His last position as a personal manager was in Guelph where he worked for a Mr says he likes the closeknit aspect between the clients at the Georgetown Royal Bank and the staff We have a lot of longtime branch staff here who know the clients by name and I find it real ly works well when the staff have this familiarity with their clients he said Within a year I should know all the banks clients and I believe when you know a persons circumstances youre better able to help them meet their needs Mr lives in Milton with his wife and their two young children Family business cuts no corners Georgetown Custom Car Sound a success through perseverance Georgetown Custom Car Sound has been a fixture in Georgetown for over 14 years And while not many people had actually heard of a car stereo store 14 years ago Gordon Vidler persevered and has made his business work Mr Vidler gained an in valuable amount of technical ex perience when he attended George Brown College while working parttime in a car stereo store in Toronto He came to Georgetown in 1977 to work as a research technician at Varian and it was at this time that he decided to venture out on his own He is very good at what he does or he wouldnt have been around these past years Although he does admit to being laughed at by more than a few banks when he applied for a loan he still believes that there is a very bright future for his business said Mr Vidler The current economic reces sion has definitely put a dent in the business during the last several months but while his sales department is suffering his service department has thrived despite the dreaded GST he said According to Mr Vidler the GST is a fact of life that everyone has to live with so that particular government ploy has failed to decrease his business What does hurt according to Mr Vidler is when paying customers travel across the border to get their stereo systems instead of buying Canadian The old myth that everything is cheaper in the States doesnt apply to the stereo business Most retailers have drastically lowered prices to compete with our southern neighbors he said Over his 14year career as a car stereo salesman Mr Vidler has not only survived he has thrived He sees an extremely bright future for his business but has so far refused to expand it into other communities Ive had the chance to expand but chose not to I would like to keep it small If I did expand quality and service would definitely suffer for it The Herald and Janet Cunneyworth have lived in Halton Hills for over 14 years and for five of those years they have been the proud owners of Al and Meats The business is run by the husband and wife team and was helped along in the early stages of Mrs Cunneyworths father whose name happened to be Al Hence the nameAIand Als Previous to their meat shop the Cunneyworths owned and operated a cheese house at the Snelgrove Flea Market when they decided to buy a butcher shop It seemed an ideal business venture for Al Cunneyworth because he has been a butcher for years and between his father and uncles who had gotten him into the field they had over years of experience The Cunneyworths business has survived over the five years of its existence but the recession has taken its toll Even with the large group of loyal customers there have been somi ugh times As Mrs puts it Every day is a struggle but its worth it to us Even when the GST came out the Cun suffered no loss of business probably because they discontinued everything that their store ofered that was tax able under the GST They also open their store on Sundays to better cater to their customers needs she said With a large clientele coming from Georgetown Milton Guelph and Oakville there seems to be a promising financial future for Al and Als Meats It is an af fordable store with a large selec tion and quality meat According to the company mot to as the pace of our lives quicken time becomes a precious commodity and Meats comes to the rescue with a fantastic selection of mouth watering prepared foods created by us AJ and Als Meats carries a full line of their
