week defeating Cawthra and Brampton Michelle Sloley provided the needed offence with a tworun homer while Sannon Morns shut down the Cawthra team on a While still playing in the Peel Girls Softball Association league the team has a new look This year the team calls the Glen Williams ball diamond home A core of seven lastyear players has been augmented with seven newcomers three of them from the former Ban tarn Girls team And this year home games are at 8 30 most Wednesday evenings Firestone got all the runs it would need in the first inning Stacy led off with a walk and stole second Two later Sloley blasted the ball well over the left fielders head The ball rolled to the fence and two runs scored Sherie Peacock walked and stole second but was stranded there Firestone played sound defen sive ball the best of the way to seal the victory Denise Hannah handled six chances flawlessly at second base In the fifth inning the team recorded their first dou ble play of the season Morris struck out the batter and then Sharon Stigger playing catcher made a perfect peg to nail a runner trying to steal third Andrea Chapman saved a run in the sixth nipping the batter with a fine third tofirst throw to end the inning Totals for the game read Cawthra zero runs on five hits all singles two walks and no er rors with six runners left on base two runs on three hits two walks and one error with four runners stranded struck out three to record the complete game victory Firestones next league game is tonight Wednesday when they entertain the team from Burlington Firestone Halton Hills Hoosiers followed up their seasonopener victory with a 53 win on Thurs day over Brampton in an exhibi tion contest at Bramptons Park Firestone were in control for most of the contest The team jumped into a quick lead in the first inning Lisa Harlow walked to lead off the game and took se cond on a wild pitch was sacrific ed to third by Amy Cooper and stole home on another wild pitch Julie Scarlett followed with a walk stole second and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Shene Peacock sliding under the tag at home It was Sharon Stigger completely shut down the Brampton offence over the first four innings Using an ef fective drop ball pitch she faced the minimum 12 batters and recorded two stakeouts The teams traded runs in the fifth The Hoosiers Shannon Mor ns singled stole The junior Boys Inter County team played Erin Gord Buchan had 36 Vin 16 Tom Dembie and Shawn Kelman teamed up and won with Dan won with and Stuart Scotford took both sets The junior Girls got a bye The Ladies A Inter County played Wallace Park on May 8 Chris Steen and Ann Kennedy won In three sets Barb and Sandy Lewis had 64 16 Graville and Audrey Jans had 16 In three sets Joanne Van Den Hoek and Eileen had scores of 76 and The Ladies C Inter County team played Regency and came second all the way Mary Hughes and Norma Maynard 36 26 Agnes Lawrence and Dynese Griffiths 26 and 06 and Maureen Burgoyne and Margaret The House League play will start May Players will be call ed by team captain as to time they are playing on that day The Mixed team starts play at home on May 14 and the Mixed walks and 3 hits with six left on base Firestone five runs on six hits and five walks with seven left on base The winning pitcher was Peacock with the Firestone pitching staff allowing only one earned season with a close game at Georgetown High School on Sunday winding up in a 27 16 win for Longhorns Each side scored four touchdowns but conversions by Dave Patterson made the dif ference as he was successful on three of four attempts M and single two point conversion by Shawn Taras wasnt quite enough Scoring touchdowns for was Bob Mark Hamilton Paul Allison and Jim Lindsay and majors were made by Daniel McCarthy Shawn Taras Hardo Shuchwitz and Mike Longhorns didnt get much rest having to play Moldmasters in the follow ing game However Longhorns stayed fresh crushing the opposi tion 3415 Again Patterson was almost flawless missing just one conver sion on five tries Teammates Mark Hamilton and Paul Allison had big games as well scoring two touchdowns each Also scor ing for was Bob Davey while West Samis got both majors and Simon Goding added the singles The Glen defeated in the next match led by Peter Izzic with two touchdowns one coming on an interception return Teammate Greg duplicated that effort with two of his own one also on an interception David Enwistle added the other For Oldtimers Doug Stamp notched two touchdowns follow ed by Chns Reed and Bill Four with one each John Vierra and Bnan Beaumont each pulled off two point conversions Electric came out on top of Plus Welding 2312 as con versions again played a signifi cant role Gary Lockwood Hulme and Rob Spiten each managed touchdowns for as Ken Lockwood kicked three converts while brothers Gary and Jeff add ed single points as well Plus Welding had no such luck getting extra points in the game only managing touchdowns by George Farrow and Kent Falby and Kasper faced off in a close game in the last contest of the day won 2214 by Dawgs Brad Ferguson Colin Brown and Al Pelland got the majors for Dawgs while
