Following the guest speakers from POWER at the United Church Women s Meeting on we wanted to bring some of these important issues to the Georgetown area peoples at tentioo Imagine bow you the people of Georgetown and surrounding rural area would feel if their water became contaminated This is a likely situation if the dump goes in as the limestone rock quarry is very porous The quarry has penetrated the bottom of the Gueiph Amabel aquifer which is the sole source of drinking water in Halton Hills This aquafer covers an area of sq km All of our municipal wells in Acton and Georgetown draw from this valuble source which is the water supply for peo ple in this region The ground water flow is eastward toward Georgetown s municipal wells Not only drinking water will be affected but local streams Black Creek leading to the Credit River and Sixteen Mile Creek could be at risk as both are being restocked with salmon Hills residents may face dust noise odor wind blown papers and garbage as well as sea gulls and vermin Traffic will increase Ac cording to today plans garbage trucks will add 394 truck trips coming from the east along Highway 7 through Georgetown In February 1990 the United Nations designated the Niagara Escarpment as a Biosphere Reserve A Biosphere Reserve conserves examples of characteristic ecosystems of some of the worlds natural regions putting our natural wonder on a par with the Galapagos Islands our Bruce Trail would be damaged If this dump gets the green light the next big project would be bringing Lake Ontario water to Georgetown proper but what about the rural area It just would not be feasible to pipe water to the country people These facts tell you Leave Mother Nature Alone Reduce Reuse Recycle Florida trip Ray and Bernice of 2 have returned from a three week motor trip to Florida and are back on the go again Get well wishes Get well wishes to Robert Cun ningham R 2 Georgetown 25th wedding anniversary celebration Ballinafad News
