Awards to students in the Halton Board of Education All students from Kindergarten to Grade are invited to submit essays or projects which demonstrate a knowledge of Canadian history or geography The deadline for submissions is Wednesday May 1991 Established by the late Catherine Hainer a Halton teacher who donated many artifacts to the Halton Region Museum the Bursary is designed to encourage students to gain a better understanding of the history and geography of Canada The aim of the Bursary to familiarize young people with issues unique to the development of Canada as a nation is especial relevant today during this cur rent unsettled period in Canadian political and economic history Awards in the Primary Kindergarten to Grade 3 Junior Grades to 6 tary Intermediate Grades and S SecondaryIntermediate Grades and 10 and Senior Grade and O A C Divisions will be presented at the Halton Region Museum on Wednesday June Winning students in Elementary grades receive a book prize and commemorative plaque Awards at the secondary level will consist of a cash prize and plaque Interested students are asked to contact their teachers at the Elementary level or Social Science teachers at schools chess tour staged last Thursday at Bennett Public School in Ac ton Seventeen Halton Region public schools divided into two sections competed in the tourna ment George Kennedy topped the A section amassing points fully 300 points better than runner up Abbey Lane Public School of Martin Street Public School of Milton finished third Harrison Public School of Georgetown finished in fourth place in the A section while Bennett and Robert Little public schools of Acton finished and eighth respectively in A section In section competition Lome Skuce Public School took first place less than points ahead of runner up Pilgrim Wood Public School of Oakville New Central Public School of Oakville took third place in B section Centennial Middle School of Georgetown finished in 7th place in section B High school holds leadership seminar The Georgetown District High School chapter of MECCA Manage ment and Entrepreneur Club of Canada held a Leadership Seminar- day in Blue Springs last Friday The seminar was designed to help selected students recognize and develop their leadership qualities The day was filled with co operative activities centred around leadership team organization and problem solving Speakers were also present to encourage the students in the programme as well as help them establish a firm base to build confidence MECCA of Georgetown would like to thank the
