McGregor Cup held Scarborough College on Saturday The Midget girls team is composed of J and 10 from the Peel and Halton region Three girls from at tending Bishop Reding school ate members of team setters Jen and Andrea and team captain and power hitter Tracy Fowler This is the second tournament the season for the team In their first tournament on Nov the team ended up ranked fifth among Midget teams across Ontario The first match of pool pla was an easy victory for Spit it dominating the Hamilton Seekers 11 squad by 155 and 154 scores Oshawa Genesis then fell victim to the strong serving game of Spirit losing 159 and 154 Scarborough Nova grabbed an early lead in the opening game of the third match but Tracy Fowler playing in an unfamiliar role as a middle blocker soon began to dominate at the net and Spirit rallied to secure a i59 win Jenny struck foi the final foui points from the serving line Fowler switched back to a power hitting position in the second game and the team easily overpowered Nova in the second game of the match Peel South Selects shared an unbeaten record with Spirit going into the final match of Pool play The hardhitting Selects took com early in the match with a lead but tough defence brought Spirit back twice to tie the match at and again at 1313 The Selects rejected two final Brampton attacks to win 1513 The routed Spirit in the se cond game The secondplace pool finish put Spirit against another undefeated team the premier Hamilton Seekers I team The third seeded Seekers could not handle Jenny Loritos serving in the first game and a 70 lead was too much for the Seekers and they dropped the first game The Spirit defence faultered at the net in the second game and the Seekers middle attack notched a win to send the match into a deciding game Andrea McNeily s serves broke open a seesaw match and Spirit advanced to the medal round with a victory The South Selects continued their domination over all learns and met Spint again in the Semi finals Two straight victories and sent them to the gold medal match where they easily defeated K Tigers to win the championship Spirit faced Windsor Diggers in the medal match Windsor was the topranked team in the tournament based on their Nov gold medal and had a 20 record against Spirit in previous tourna ment play Spirit dominated the first game with a 15fi win and looked as though they were on their way to a sweep as they were ready to serve game point in the second game A rotational order fault took the score back to for Windsor and they took the second game by a margin The
