Womens Institute By BETTY SO JK A Correspondent The Womens Institute held their last meeting until after the sum mer with a trip to and St Jacobs About 14 ladies went by car first to Elmira where they made a stop at the Bronx Village Here the ladies enjoyed seeing all the crafts especially the quilts The bottom floor of the Bronx bad an extensive display of Christinas decorations and craft material to purchase The ladies broke for lunch at the Loft Restaurant in Bronx Village A large smorgasbord menu proved to be very filling and delightful Members continued their trip by driving to St Jacobs Sitting on benches outside the St Jacobs Library the ladies had their business meeting A report was given on the recent District Annual Womens Institute meeting After their business meeting the ladies visited the Old Mill Here there was something for everyone par taste Crafts included stain ed glass clothing apple dolls paintings and some beautiful quilts The ladles also visited an old blacksmith shop which displayed a forage After looking through a few more recently renovated shops near the Old Mill the ladies headed home The Womens Institute will resume meeting in September The Balllnafad Ladies baseball game on Thursday June IS was a battle when they met up with Club 21 It was ads home game Throughout the game the winning score was shared by both teams won the game without having to take their last bat Elaine Bowman brought in runs the triple she hit Lisa clobbered the ball for a It was a wellplayed game with both teams making few errors The Ladies meet Black Brigade on June and waxed polished and preened vehiclestook to the lawns of Cedarvale Park last Sunday morning The morning itself ed overcast with hints of drizzle however the mist dissipated and sunny warm weather prevailed for what many say was the largest outdoor pure auto show in Cana dian history This years event with spectators numbering over 7000 followed on last years overwhelming in augural success Sundays show is expected to put in excess of 000 into the Canadian Cancer Societys war chest to further the ongoing battle against cancer Organizing committee members and Society representatives were thrilled with the popular response shown by sponsors entrants volunteers and the public An organizing committee member said business sponsors should feel proud the fact that over per cent of the start up and contingen cy funds required to run the event came from the local Hills area Approximately 115 volunteers catered to the needs of the entrants and the seemingly hoards of people who arrived in a six hour period to view the vast array of automobiles on display Local Kinsmen Op timists Kinettes Optimises and Chamber of Commerce volunteers pitched in invaluably to make this show happen Andwhatashowitwas Eighty five per cent of the vehicles judged achieved awards of excellence following the tabula tion of the formal judging The cars and trucks ranged from an economy minded three wheeled two- seat I960 own ed by local car nut Bill Garbutt to the superb 1931 Chrysler and the J of s old car purveyor Terry Raddy The Messerschmitt was original Iy constructed from extra moulds and canopies left over from actual Messerschmitt war plane produc tion from the second world war The vehicles price suited the lack of buying power expenenced by people in Europe after the war The Duesy This award involved a popular activity where the public chose their favorite car or cars by depositing money into the Cancer Society voting box positioned in front of each vehicle The exhibitor having the most money in his or her box won Bussells Atlas was certainly a popular vehicle As was described the entrants welcoming literature The Peoples Choice Award Is probably the only place a large vote for yourself could make you a winner outside of a Latin American try that is The Presidents Cup for the car sconng the highest marks in the formal judging competition was awarded by local Cancer Society Unit president Al Ronssen to Byron Anderson of Brantford for his immaculate and a half Ford Mustang convertible Ander sons Mustang garnered 489 points out of a possible perfect 500 and was truly spectacularly presented Anderson is a member of the McLaughlin Buick Club of Canada as well as the Historical Automobile Society of Canada HASC It was HAS C York Region who generously provided the judging services for the day Among the many fascinating displays were Wilson s quaint tiny unrestored Austin Seven Europe s equivalent of North Model T Kirk Achumi s magnificent ran 365 GTB4 once owned by former Formula One world champion Lauda and the wonderful 1934 Lincoln KB previously owned by Guelph born movie star Sparks now owned by Raymond Death of Pleasant and sometimes surpris ing things seemed to happen all day Edgar Thatcher and his musical comedy group Hen Without Hairs while thoroughly amusing the audience offered a chance at stardom to a randomly chosen fellow in the stands everyones surprise and delight the guy could play Edgars guitar well like ringing a Bell The extremely popular Credit Valley Jazz Cats and John McDonalds Sudden Impact also played to bleachers full of visitors taking a break from viewing the almost overwhelming number of automotive displays Many enjoy ing the fruits of their own labour performed at the Worlds Largest Do It Yourself Ice Cream Sundae Buffet run by the Halton HUls Chamber of Commerce The Buf fet Raided by the perfectly hot weather had served up over Sundaes Celebrities present to ad sparkle to the show included the Toronto Star Jim Kenzie proudly showing his authentic 1972 Hornet cents in his Peoples Choice box mostly In pennies Genie win ner John Wildman with his Buick Skylark convertible kept busy signing autographs for the many young women on hand for bis appearance and long time road racer Bill Brack and his gorgeous 1963 Aston Martin 5 Note Souvenir teeshirts hats and free programs may still be
