Halton May and May 12 ap proach Head coach Clarke had his charges in action again last weekend with strong ap pearances in both the Nelson Relays in Burlington and at the Roland Games in Toronto Saturday at St Mikes Bot Danker again led an impressive showing by the Rebels at the an nual Roland Games The junior runner took silver in the 1500- metre final setting a personal best time at four minutes seven A fine third place finish was turned in by the open girls fourbyfour squad of Sarah Broughton Anna Kristy Lewis and Lisa Carter Burroughs senior girls and Kevip Dyer junior boys were both finalists in their respective 100metre sprint finals with results that bode well for the OFSAA finals in June They both ran against probably the top runners in the province said Clarke Clarke also had high praise for his midget boys 1500metre specialists Jake Mashinter Ryan Trant and Kevin They all ran well and all broke personal best times by at least seconds apiece he said Kristy Lewis just back from the GDHS bands tour of West Germany was also cited by Clarke for her strong running in the midget girls Rebels earlier warmed up for the Roland Games with an ex cellent effort at Burlingtons Nelson Relays on Friday The open boys relay team led the red white and blue with a gold medal run as Cam Herman Stew Mike Dyer and Glenn Mulder combined for the wm Mulder Teetzel Dyer and his brother Kevin and Rob also earned first in the open boys novelty relay an event covering 1600metres with a team of five runners Mike Dyer round ed out a fine day by claiming se cond in the open boys 100metre event Clarke was happy with the work of two midget girls 1600- metre medley teams as a second and a third were earned by Andrea Webb Alexis Kerr Janice Smith Tanya Mitchell and Jen at the annual GHAC finals in Hamilton last Thursday Thorpes bronze medal per marked the best outing at GHAC by any Acton bad minton player in the schools history Thorpe won three of five games losing twice to Assump tions Peter Marsalak Peter really had Daves number other wise he won his matches handi ly said Acton coach Tom Wright Despite finishing third Thorpe missed the OFSAA badminton cut by one position as only the top two finishers advance to the all- Ontario championships However Wright said Thorpes season finale was anything but disappointing Dave gave a good run at the Halton Closed and Open he had a very good season said Wright who added the badminton squad next season will be going for the gusto Mixed results for Rebels A pair of mixed doubles teams carried the Rebel colors into bat tle at the GHAC badminton finals in Hamilton Thursday and GDHS coach Bob McKay was more than pleased with the results Bill Tutt and Julie Purvis team ed up to take fourth spot while right behind them in fifth was the tandem of Meredith Hamp and Owen Jones They did very wen said McKay At GHAC youre com ing up almost exclusively against club players so its pretty tough Melanie Jans was slated to compete for Georgetown in ladies singles but was forced to scratch In favor of a major squash com mltment Burke blanks Royal bats Burke pitched shutout ball and helped his own cause with a triple as the GDHS Rebels blanked the Bishop Reding Royals 12O in opening day high school baseball league action in Georgetown on Monday and Adam also chipped in with triples while Travis Gardiner came in to finish the job on the Georgetown mound The baseball visit Oakville to play White Oaks Wildcats today Softball tourney on deck Saturday May 6 will be a busy Softball day at the Fairgrounds Park as the Lady Rebels will be hosting their first Spring Softball Tournament Twelve games are scheduled fromSam through until 5pm To date five teams are entered into the tourney namely Lord Elgin Bishop Reding Milton and host team Georgetown Coaches are using this early bird tournament as a means of selecting players under actual game conditions The entire tour nament is designed for this pur pose with little emphasis on winn ing but a great deal of emphasis on participation The tournament will be a round robin style of short games culminating with the top two teams playing for the champion ship due to begin at p m The teams finishing third and fourth will play for the consolation Each team is guaranteed four games in all with the exception of one which will play five The entire tournament is part of a school project and is ed and run by a trio of girls part of a class for Ms Orchard namely Cindy Dunn Julie Anderson and Lewis It will take the co operation of the student body
