Beardmore lands Canada Packers is asking the Town of Halton Hills to provide sewage service for an Acton pro perty Mayor Miller has call ed the most contaminated piece of property in Southern Ontario The Haltol Hills mayor referred to 300 acres of land owned by Canada Packers Incorporated in southcentral urban Acton The company presently services its own sewage treatment through a spraying system Understandably they want to get out of their private lagoon spraying system said town plan ning director Ian Keith But Mr Keith added that Actons sewage supply is limited The town has to becarefulhesaid The town will not make a deci sion until consulting with the Credit Valley Conservation Authority The Ministry of the En vironment must also review Canada Packers application The lands are on the site of the Beardmore Tannery closed several years ago There are two existing buildings on the property which occupy 93000 ft and house employees Canada Packers is asking the town to hook up sewage services only to these buildings Halton Region says that full ser vicing could not be provided for all the Beardmore lands Mayor Miller said that nearly all tjieir Canada Packers buildings lie within the of Black Creek I would imagine its the most contaminated piece of property in Hills if not in southern On tario he said Mr Keith said Canada Packers presently has an environmental impact study being conducted and the Ministry of the Environment is presently dealing with current plans said town engineer Bob Austin He added that ministry testing is being done on a con tinuous basis There is now ongoing discus sion with the ministry he said The town will not decide on whether or not to grant Canada Packers sewage service for about acres of land near the buildings until a second report goes to town council from the planning depart ment The planning department is recommending a public meeting to discuss the issue with area residents and is recommending the meeting be
