Jessie Ward 13 6 12 ByPOUGTHOM Herald Special Georgetowns Century Ma jor Atoms ended their regular season recently by losing a close game to Stoney Creek Both teams were evenly match ed and provided spectators with exciting hockey action highlighted by close checking and endtoend rushes Paul Sandifer put the local club in the lead early in the first period on a pass from Sandy Davidson Stoney Creek tied the score midway through the first period and took the lead 21 on a quick goal in the first minute of play in the second period Georgetown fought back and stormed the Creek net for the remainder of the period Their hard work was rewarded when David Kotsos tied the score at 22 on a pass from Thorn with remaining in the period However Stoney Creek took the lead in the final period on a goal scored with 213 remaining Georgetown pulled their Josh Richardson but were unable to get the equalizer The closeness of the Major Atom action is reflected in the outcome of the Stoney Creek contest A win would have placed Georgetown in third place the loss placed them in fifth Ontario playdowns now begin with Georgetown facing off against Milton Recent TriCounty hockey ac tion saw the Georgetown Century 21 Major Atoms continue their winning ways after their suc cessful Newmarket tournament On Jan Georgetown defeated Chinguacousy 31 in a spirited contest which featured close checking and fine playmak- ing by the local team While they controlled the play the Century 2is were unable to take ad vantage of the numerous op portunities made available to them Chinguacousy was also assisted by some outstanding goaltending which closed the door on the Georgetown at tackers Marc Boucher continued his scoring ways with a goal early in the second period assisted by David Kotsos and Andrew Trant With the score 10 David Kalbar- ski increased the local teams lead to two goals on a flip shot assisted by Marc Boucher and Paul Chinguacousy bat tled back in the third period with a goal but David Kotsos ended the rally with a goal at the mark He was assisted by Kevin on this fine effort On Jan 17 Georgetown took on Burlington at the Memorial arena To date the Century 21s had tied and lost to the visiting team The first period saw both teams battle to a scoreless tie with only six stoppages in play during the ten minute period Close checking and endtoend rushes kept fans on the edge of their seats Scott Truman broke the game open early in the second period when he banged in a goal assisted by Brad Spears Less than a minute later David Kotsos shocked the Burlington
