in Apnl Many organizations and in dividuals care about conservation and have undertaken projects whch enhance and protect the en vironment In recognition of this a conser vation award program has been earned out by the Conservation Authority since The award was named after Ralph Sherwood a long standing and distinguished member of the Halton Authority whose service and dedication to conservation extended over 20 years The award is presented to a citizen or group who has made an outstanding contribution to conser vation in the watershed In 1987 the Authority received seven worthy nominations for the award Mr Peter van of was selected for his in in the Bird Breeding Atlas project From to 1986 Mr van Dijken was a regional co ordinator for the HaltonPeel section of the Ontano Bird Breeding Atlas project This recently published document is now regarded as the mose com prehensive book on Ontano birds Mr van Dijken was responsible for ensuring that his research area was completely covered as well as monitonng and checking the ty of the information The regional were a vital link between project organizers and the hundreds of volunteers who participated in the program The publication is impor tant for both the serious naturalist as well as agencies such as conser vation authorities and universities This year the award has been expanded to three categones In dividual Institutional and
