year said Mr Jenkins Board of Education tor Bob Williams outlined his five first year objectives for leadership at the Oct meeting of Board trustees focusing on his visibility Mr Williams who replaces former director as Education Director and Secretary said he look a temperature check on the needs of the school board and his results arc based on analysis In a report to trustees and board members Mr Williams said he will become established as a highly credible decisive visible leader or public education in This will include he said giving sound judgement lo the board developing a cooperative team ap proach between trustees and ad ministration and developing re la with community groups consultative staff neighboring boards the media municipal of ficlals principal associations staff groups federations unions and superintendents and trustees Mr Williams hopes to be seen to model consistently our mission of excellence our beliefs and values enhancing maintaining a strong provincial profile for In the board report Mr Williams outlined his second objective to design a revised organization lure which matches the needs of the system or the next decade with the talents of Individual staff Mr Williams said a review of pre sent and future organizational needs and an assessment of individual superintendents talents and in should be completed by mid November for the following A structural plan for future organization should also be presented in November with Interim moves made in he said As a third objective In his first year as Director Mr Williams wants to significantly Improve the boards internal and external com This he said will Include a com prehcnslve communications plan open communications with all rater il and internal groups and clear and consistent board rcpor will as an effective com municator on behalf of the board and public education He will main tain a balanced perspective and sense of humor he promised In a board report A objective of the new Director Includes establishing a strategic focus for classroom in and planning procedures Mr Williams will provide an consensus procedures will be reviewed in report presented to the board by April 1989 New planning pro cedures will include more emphasis on strategic planning and long range financial planning sold the director He also cited a provision for long ranee accommodation needs As a final objective Mr Williams said a smooth transition of leader ship is necessary He said he will release a of his analysis of the board system by December Mr Williams said there will be discussions with staff and all centres and schools during the year and that trustees new to the board will be integrated quickly through a new orientation program He also said he will revise per review criteria
