had first to become the permanent of cither midget or juvenile events but after that ap plication was turned down the local hockey body went after hosting this year midget tournament Georgetown was In the final running with Belleville but the Eastern On tano community was granted the championship Subsequently Georgetown applied for the event and was in the running with Stratford However Stratford had hosted last years tournament so Georgetown was granted the 1987 event The April tournament will be made up of four teams from the Northern Hockey Association On Minor Hockey Association and Metropolitan Toronto Hockey League MTHL as well as the local Junior Gemini squad The tournament will open on day the with a pair of games at the Arena that night Round robin play will continue on Saturday with the medal games being played on Sunday The top two clubs In round robin will play for the gold medal while the third and fourth place teams will battle for the bronze president Wayne been minted the tournament Pries and the GMHA arc looking for Interested individuals to help run the threeday tournament Pries also said a cor sponsor will be sought ad ding with a sponsor Georgetown can do a better job of putting on a first class tournament It is a minor hockey event but were not adverse to getting outside help seeing as we don have enough people in our executive to run Pnessald campaign has featured Its share of different twists for Halton Hills native Jeff The seven year CPL veteran started the year as a Toronto Argonaut ana despite having his best year as a pro Inglis was then shipped out to Saskatchewan after games before being released by the western Riders with three games left in the regular season But rather than settling into his offseason routine Inglis was signed to tice agreements by first Edmonton Eskimos then Hamilton Tiger Cats once the playoffs began In fact In was still with Hamilton when the Tiger Clots defeated the Eskimos in he Grey Cup although he dress for he game In both In stances injuries along the offensive line forced the CFL teams to add In Is as insurance However the two Grey Cup finalists t the only clubs to ex press interest In the 275- pound offensive tackle from Ottawa Rough Riders and Montreal Alloucttes call Inglis but both teams didn t come up with anything concrete for him By virtue of his release from Saskatchewan and not signing a con tract with cither Hamilton or Ed Inglis still remains a free agent and can go to any club However despite the interest ex pressed by some teams Inglis re mains noncommittal about and as to where he will be playing It s hard to exactly he said These clubs Hamilton and Ed went to trie Grey Cup so just how many people will they need As for Ottawa I haven talked to them since all the recent happen here Rough Riders being sold Maybe they re out of the picture don t want to emphasize them clubs expressing on interest In continued 1 know those are the facts but who knows what Is going to phone I Just want to go to a team lhat really needs me Its ironical that what started out as Inglis best season hit a low point with the release but came back full circle with working out with the eventual Grey Cup champs Inglis with Hamilton when the Tiger Cats eliminated Toronto in the iwo- final But to do so the Cots had to overcome a deficit at one point before rallying back for the- scries win It was also Ironical when In was traded to Saskatchewan It was to accommodate former Dallas Cowboys starter Chris Schultz Mark Dunning goes to Aurora in order to get more ice time Herald Sports Now is not he time to be a rookie with the Ontario Hockey League s North Bay Centennials Georgetown Mark Dunning can at test to that The year old defenccman left North Bay last week having a conversation with Centennials coach general manager Bert Tcmpleton The conversation was based on Dunning not getting enough ice time with the club and it was decided tint maybe it was bet for to pi iy for he Centennials Tier II Junior affiliate club in Aurora Dunning round draft pick of the i in in last midget drjlt and was able to on with club after training camp However the return of defenecmen Mike Buffalo NIll Nick Kyprocs and Templetou put ting forward Wayne MePhee back on defence didn look good for rookie like Dunning get pluylng time Dunning was with North Bay for 30 games and had no scoring points Bert has it In Ills mind that he Wants to go for the Memorial Cup and now he has the team to do it Dunning said There arc only two missing from last year club At first Dunning fell the moc be one for him but wo practices with the Aurora club ch those thoughts Dunning said Bert thoutJii 1 wosn getting any better with limited lee lime so wc talked and d it was better for me to somewhere where I cm play When relumed home he first skated with Georgetown Pontine Gemini and there wire hopes the former Centennial could play for the Central Ontario Junior Hockey league club However with being North Bay affiliate club and being in the Tier ranks it was felt the Georgetown native would improve more with Aurora Dunning has had two workouts with Auron and will play his first with the new team this weekend on the road in and Dunning said he has noticed a big difference in the coaching styles of Tcmpleton and Aurora s Norm Norm is totally opposite of Bert Dunning said Norm will take the and talk to you about what you re doing right and will help you with what you re doing wrong where Bert gives you a blast While first being disappointed about leaving North Bay Dunning now has the insight as to what the is like That experience will be beneficial next season as Tcmpleton is looking o Dunning to help anchor the Centennial defence corps Being In North Bay improved my skating and improved my passing My confidence might hove gone down but coming back and Im back some weight from At least I II know what lo ex for next year But for the time being Dunning will be bock amongst familiar roundlngs By playing In Aurora Dunning can go to school In Georgetown resume his Grade and 13 studies and be back with his friends Not only that fellow Georgetown native Don Cruise is now a teammate of Dunning In Aurora There had been growing pressure in Toronto at the lime or Inglis trade for the Argos to insert Schultz into the lineup The media had been applying the pressure stating that because the Argos had given up so many sacks a change was needed However even with Schultz in the lineup offensive line con tinued giving up the quarterback sacks Inglis said when he first donned a football uniform three weeks after being released from Saskatchewan he was a little rusty However once the Grey Cup game had arrived he wos ready to play but the Tiger Cols went with backup Ralph to replace starter John Ma I now sky who was hurt While wishing he could have seen action in the game Inglis understood his chances of playing for Hamilton were slim best It pretty tough for them Hamilton because they cant put me in front of someone who has been there nil year said By Grey Cup day I was ready but it was to no avail because Hamilton had everyone ready to go Since first second off seasons began he has been attending University of Western Ontario once a week working on his course in philosophy Inglis has begun his weight training routine and Is glad the year Is over Its good being home now for a little rest Inglis said It nice to finally be settling into the off season I thought It would be a longer one but At age 30 Inglis still has many pro ductive years left as an offensive lineman However should the phone not ring and no offers come forth In doesn t plan to sit around and feel sorry for himself For life won t end without football If I don get a call 1 11 go to school and finish it off real quick he said I II go into another phase and look for something else
