Family feeling at old school threesome recall I hive had companion In my childhood in my Joyful dayi all are gone the old familiar faces- Charle Lamb By TYLER Herald Special For most of us leaving school means leaving behind friends and settling Instead for mere memories But for more than former students and teachers who coaverg on Acton this past weekend the Acton Continuation School reunion was a rare chance to renew old ties and relive happiness and hi inks More than a year of planning brought together nearly years of classes for the twoday event with former students flying In from across the continent A wine and cheese at the Acton Legion Friday night kicked things off and around- town bus tours Satur day were followed by a band concert and dinner Saturday evening at the Acton arena For most the weekend was a wonderful way to catch up on whats been happening in the last 30 or even 50 years hut for some such as Marie Lantz Sutcllffe there were more than a few surprises Ive Just been having a wonderful time seeing everyone although there were some I should have recognized but didnt said Mrs Sutcllffe who looks 15 yeara younger than her years at a buf fet dinner at the Acton arena Satur day night But it was a real disappointment driving through the town It really gone downhill Mrs Sutcllffe a 1B2 graduate who later married and moved to Detroit where she and her husband raised a son and daughter both In the States said she has passed school buses which took the students on a guided tour around town I Coy S3 and Isabel Lantx Gordon agreed The main street was bustl with people and the downtown was full of shops they said with the old stone continuation school perfectly in place In such a setting The sisters manned the towns telephone exchange after moving In to town from the familys farm on the outskirts While handling all In corning and outgoing calls didnt necessarily mean they knew everything that was going on they insist it did allow for them to attest to how closeknit the town was That they say was carried over on a smaller scale to their experiences at school Clara who was a pharmacist In Hamilton and Gait before settling in with husband to raise a daughter remembers being impressed and somewhat in timidated by the school and its peo ple after coming from a oneroom In the country There were many former back In school Saturday for Ac ton Continuation School was a homecoming dinner In the evening the Acton arena Seen The teachers you know they Just dressed so finely and here we were walking in from the country In a history of the school unearth for the reunion Mac Sprowl notes the teachers at the time numbered two a man and a woman down substantially from the now on staff at Acton High School Students paid fees in the neighborhood of a year and classes were held In three rooms with some grades doubling up As enrolment climbed the village school board decided to purchase land for a new building Roughly covered the cost of putting up a new structure which housed about 100 students from to 1951 when a new high school now the McKemle- Smlth Middle School was built on drinking a toait are left to right Isabel Lantz their ages but hinted that 1919 or 1920 was their year have spent virtual v all their lives In Acton They say the newer school like the former that they attended was a mirror age of the town Itself It
