to grow Herald Special The annual vestry meeting of St Georges Anglican Church was held recently after the Sunday service and approved a budget of for 1986 up from last year The increase of per cent was approved after considerable debate but with confidence that the gallon will continue grow and thai members will Increase their support The meeting was attended by parishioners who welcomed Valcrii- and Bob Tadman rccentlj by the church as Pastoral Associates to work with the Rector the Itev Jim The wardens taking office for the next year arc Joe Edwards and Cathy Hunt along with deputy wardens Graham Watts and Lewis Stevenson Delegates to the Diocese of Niagara Synodarc Barbara Jon Cos tarn and Brian Robinson The Rector In his report the congregation to reflect on the question Does St Georges want to grow He said Our town grows our programs grow but our base our parish population has remained fairly constant recent years Theres a slight increase perhaps in numbers but I ask the question with seriousness Do we want to grow or are comfortable with our present size take time and energy and our ehurch sanctuary Is usually comfortably filled at and each Sunday morning He listed some considerations around this question of growth some will say the church must grow for our task is lo spread the gospel and invite people to know Jesus and join the Christian family some will say that a larger parish becomes impersonal so we should be sending new people from the new subdivisions to Hornby or planning a some will say that growth is too hard and that we can effectively reach out people all wc can do is remain faithful and wait for others to come some will say that our facilities are at their limit now and well have to build if we decide to grow some will be cynical and say that II never grow anyway even if wanted lo After inviting the congregation to discuss these questions he nolcd that a strategic planning group had been meeting over the past year and would be submitting a major report in March lie concluded St Georges has had a long and rich history of service in this town and our building stands proudly on this hill a symbol of God presence among his people What of the next two decades What course will we follow Yearbook material wanted TOM llrrukl Special The Centennial Commit lee would like to receive pictures and information iboul the following
