proposed tor a phase on development project Phase I wo would add another 139 acres The phase one site is located cast of Mountain view Road south of Silver Creek near Georgetown sewage treatment plant town treatment facility the consultant said Harry Levy questioned whether any of the homes would be built on rill especially on the ravine lots Mr said none of the houses would be built on fill Coun Phil Camey wanted to know if there was a chance to build a roadway to the Silver Creek ravine that would access the Eighth Line from Mountain view Road Coun passible to route traffic off Mountain view opposition from citizens at a council I meeting August 6 the town approved two Secondary Plans allowing for the expansion of Georgetown urban daries After listening to 11 delegations councillors unanimously passed the Georgetown West and Georgetown South Secondary Plans A motion to adopt a transportation study which in part deals with develop ment within the new boundaries was also passed by a margin Coun Harry Levy registered the sole dissent ing vote The vote by councillors paves the way for future development in George town West and Georgetown South The Secondary Plans allow for the development of acres for Industrial and commercial ventures as well as homes and apartments for new residents TWO IN FAVOR Of tho 11 delegations speaking to council two registered their approval going ahead with the Secondary Plans Both the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the Business Committee were in favor of adopting the Plans The other speakers voiced their concerns about increasing road hazards on Mountninview Road South Brian Mann said it wasn t logical to have just one major access route into Georgetown from the South It is physically impossible to handle the traffic said the Mountninview Road South resident CHEAPEST The Ninth Line as the entrance- way l Georgetown is just the cheapest solution he said A transportation study released earlier predicted traffic flow on Mountainvlcw Rood South would Increase in the future from 120 cars per hour to 1 300 per hour during rush hour However Mr Mann questioned why the study 1 figure was reducedtoonlyeoocars per hour after consultants later predicted cars would turn Into the new development south of Silver Creek Roger Stopford of Irwin Crescent Says Levy said there were some basic faults In the Secondary Plans that would degrade the economy of the town and create anxiety within the community He complained that the public participation process was not adequate enough to give residents a chance to express their views Mr said council could have asked Mountninview residents how they fell about the Plans posted notices of meetings on utility poles or tried a telephone survey Increasing the traffic flow on Mountalnview Road will adversely ihe residents from a traffic and parking standpoint he said But the Official Plan stales that new road installations should be compatible with the former use he said
