HERALD PROFILE EDITION May 1983 Charles Genore Marketing a favourite of teacher ByNitaMillesse Herald correspondent Mr Genore is the Business teacher at the high school For five years Mr Genore has been running the Marketing Club at Mr Genore studied at the University of Ottawa for four years for his Bachelor of Com merce After graduating Mr Genore entered the work force for two years at a data processing parts centre for IBM After working at IBM Mr Genore came back to Carlton to study more economics Mr Genores first teaching job was at Dennis Morris High School in St Catharines where he taught for two years Then Mr Genore went to Kenya and taught for the Kenya government at a girls commercial school There Mr taught math commer ce typing and accounting It was a very good experience says Mr It helped me to appreciate different ethnic people plus their culture We have maintained friendship and contact since we left there Upon returning to Canada Mr Genore taught at Del High District High School for one year and then moved to Georgetown where he has been teaching at GDHS ever since Georgetown has been a good school to belong tosaja Mr Genore Mr Genore teaches such subjects as ac counting marketing typing law office prac tice and business math at GDHS Mr also runs the Marketing Club for marketing students at the high school Mr Genore was one of the first founding members of the Marketing Educating Clubs of Canada is an organization af filiated with a similar American organization called Mr Genore was president of in and is presently the secretary of the club The foungoals of the Marketing club are leadership development social intelligence vocational understanding and civic con sciousness CHARLES GENORE Mr Genore says his goal is to see more student and teacher involvement in marketing in the province of Ontario Marketing and management skills play a very important part in everyones life We are being constantly bombarded by promotional devices plus it is helpful because of people will be entering the business world This years Marketing Club holds members of marketing students exclusively Mr claims that the Marketing Club teaches the students to manage their time and plan healthy work habits People entering the business world must understand what it is all about and how it can be used The Marketing Club enforces good work habits helps them to better understand themselves to see their talents and develop their interests In the past the Marketing Club has been involved with the high schools magazine cam paign as well as selling advertisements for the high school newspaper The Leader As far as the future is concerned Mr Genore plans to continue teaching at Georgetown The only thing that stops me from doing any more exchange jobs is the fact that I have a young family If I was still single I would just pick up and go Harry Hamilton Music teacher for 16 years By Nita Mi Hesse Herald correspondent Mr Harry Hamilton is one of the music teachers at GDHS and after 16 years of teaching and running the band at the high school he has decided that he will be retiring af ter next year Mr Hamilton admits that at first he had no intention of teaching It all started when Mr an art teacher at the school and a friend of Mr Hamilton set him up an interview with the principal Mr Furlong Mr Hamilton confessed that although he had no intentions of getting the job he went to the interview anyway as a favor to Mr Mac donald He ended up receiving a one year per mit to teach after all and after one month found that he really liked teaching Mr Hamilton then decided to get his teachers degree Instead of taking a full school year off to attend teachers college Mr Hamilton took a course at the University of Toronto for four summers Mr Hamilton took music lessons briefly when he was a child He attended two years of lessons on the and one and a half years on the trumpet and says that he gained most of his musical knowledge at the Toronto Public Library Mr Hamilton was encouraged to learn how to read and write music at an early age by his father Friends and neighbours were quite helpful in accomplishing this task I ap preciate them very much says Mr Hamilton more so as I get older Prior to his teaching career Mr Hamilton experienced a long history of musical performances His first performance was a harmonica solo that was broadcasted over CF- CA Radio station when Mr Hamilton was only fifteen years old From there he accepted an offer to teach accordian at the Royal Accordian Academy Mr Hamilton played a summer season with the Toronto Symphony Proms and worked at the CBC playing the trumpet horn and vibraphone He also played for the Peoples Credit Childrens Show for eight years on the CFRB radio station Play director taught in Trinidad By Herald correspondent Ms Gooding is a Theatre Arts and English teacher at GDHS In the past Ms Gooding has directed such plays and musicals as Oliver The Cruciable and the Merchant Venice Ms Gooding studied her English Major and General Arts at Western University in Lon don From there she went to the Faculty of Education in Oldhouse for Theatre and English and graduated in the first class of theatre arts teachers in Ontario Her first teaching job was at a school in South Porcupine now part of Tirnmins Ms Gooding started the Theatre Arts program at that school Ms Gooding then came to GDHS and started the Theatre Arts program here and taught English for four years In 1973 Ms Gooding moved to Trinidad and taught at a private boys school I thought I was going forever says Ms Gooding but I only stayed a year After her year teaching in Trinidad Ms Gooding came back to Canada and taught grade eight students in There were no theatre programs at this school so Ms Gooding taught mostly language arts There was no time to teach says Ms Gooding about her stay there it was all discipline I spent my day playing police woman Ms Gooding stayed there for two years and then came back to Georgetown When asked if she liked teaching at GDHS the best Ms Gooding replied They are all so different so its hard to say Obviously I like it here or I wouldnt have come back I like the staff and I feel comfortable here When Ms Gooding first taught at GDHS she only directed one act play or childrens dramas Since she came back she has directed two musicals and two full plays I dont feel comfortable directing musicals because I dont know enough about music and choreography My thing is drama MS GOODING
